K-Réa
K-Rea is an analysis tool for retaining walls using the reaction coefficient calculation method and in accordance with Eurocode 7.

Retaining walls
K-Rea is an analysis tool for all types of retaining walls (diaphragm walls, secant pile walls, Berlin walls, sheet pile walls, combiwalls, composite walls, etc.) using the reaction coefficient method, taking into account soil/wall interaction effects, construction phasing, as well as the non-linear behavior of soils and anchors.
Calculations can be performed for serviceability limit states (SLS) and ultimate limit states (ULS), with a safety formalism derived from Eurocode 7 or imposed by the user. For ULS calculations, additional verifications are proposed in connection with the NF P 94 282 standard: passive pressure failure, vertical equilibrium, and stability of the anchor block (Kranz).
K-Rea allows for the analysis of two interacting walls via a system of struts and/or tie rods, particularly useful when symmetry conditions (loading, structure, stratigraphy) are not guaranteed.
K-Rea also allows for detailed modeling of phasing kinematics: wall installation, excavation, anchors, surcharges, earthworks and backfilling, changes in water table level, etc. It is also possible to define load combinations.
Key features of K-Rea
- A reliable and robust calculation engine based on a finite element formulation of the static equilibrium of the wall.
- A user-friendly interface allowing visualization of phasing and actions with graphical and numerical access to key results necessary for design.
- Script Mode allowing modification or complete definition of a K-Rea project from a series of commands.
- Modeling of a phasing tree structure allowing for complex phasing scenarios.
- Ability to model two interacting walls via tie rods or struts (additional module).
- Automatic seismic analysis taking into account dynamic increments of active and passive pressure.
- ULS verifications (Eurocode 7) including the integration of an MEL model for cantilever walls and a Kranz model for anchored walls.
- Treatment of second-order effects.
- Direct interface with Talren for importing active/passive pressure diagrams.
- Direct interface with Scage for structural verifications.
The script mode allows modification or complete definition of a K-Rea project from a series of commands (actions, phasing, options, etc.). The interface is equipped with an automatic script generation mode to facilitate its use and understanding. Parameters that have a default value in the interface are not mandatory, which allows reducing the text to be entered to the strict minimum, while still allowing the possibility to impose them at any time.
Phasing tree structure
The phasing tree structure allows for handling complex phasing scenarios, including, for example, multiple loading situations or construction scenarios. This also allows comparison of several phasing variants within the same project and identification of the most optimal one.

Available results
- Displacements, moments, shear forces, normal forces, arching effects, and anchor reactions (for each phase and envelope curves).
- Earth and water pressures (in active and passive states).
- Ratio of mobilizable passive pressure to mobilized passive pressure.
- Results presentation window for verifications (passive pressure failure, vertical force balance, and Kranz).

ULS verifications
K-Rea v4 incorporates verifications according to calculation approaches 1, 2, and 3 of Eurocode 7, and in particular according to the NF P 94-282 standard (French application standard of Eurocode 7 for retaining structures):
- MEL / MISS-K models with ULS force calculations.
- Verification of passive pressure failure.
- Evaluation of vertical force balance.
- Verification of anchor block stability using the simplified Kranz method (including for multiple anchor levels).
- Possible modification of predefined partial coefficients.
